Aggies make the bottom 10

Cheer up Aggies!

We've made ESPN's Bottom 10!

Link to Bottom 10

ESPN's writer said, "Not only did Texas A&M lose its first home opener in 21 years, but the Aggies lost it 18-14 to Arkansas State. We're talking about the Red Wolves, not the Razorbacks. Although considering Arkansas' escape against Western Illinois, the Hogs might have been a more welcome sight in Aggieland. Welcome back to College Station, Mike Sherman."

ESPN mocked an Aggie Yell:

"You Got It (The Right Stuff)": What's all the hullabaloo? The Aggies were beaten all to Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem by Arkansas State at Kyle Field. Rough! Tough! Real stuff! Texas A&M?"

The InkDemon is waiting for more dubious "accolades" to roll in this season. Developing....

The Dreaded Bama Curse strikes again in Aggieland

The Dreaded Bama Curse!

The last time the Aggies hired a football coach from the University of Alabama, they got an almost fatal infection of the DREADED BAMA CURSE.

The curse ravaged the campus and the vast right wing majority of alumni alike.

Before it ran it course, the Aggie football record was in a shambles and Aggie Alumni were lined up in a Circular Firing Squad.

Now comes Coach Joe Kines....

The Aggies hired Joe out of Alabama. He was said to have a fast-talking rock 'em sock 'em style of defense.

It sounded great to Aggies who were starved for the return of the days of the Wrecking Crew defense.

So what did Joe's defense do against Sun Belt Conference middle dweller Arkansas State? The Aggies got steam rolled, 18-14!

OH! Yes! That last Arky State TD was telling. The Arky Red Wolves stuffed' Joe's defense up the middle.

Wheels fall off of Sherman's offense

The Aggies are horrible!

They lost Saturday to Arkansas State, 18-14.

The InkDemon recommends thatAthletic Director "Dollar" Bill Byrne's Wednesday blog should start a 12-week series on the subject of How to pick up a turd by the "clean" end.

What else can he say about this loss? What else will Aggies need to know as this season drags on?

The InkDemon believes he's going to have fun blogging this season! There are no excuses for losing to A-State at home!

Here are the InkDemon's choices that the Aggies should consider for the remainder of the season:

1. Suspend the season and have a self-imposed death penalty.

2. Pack up the coaches and drive them to Junction, TX, for a coaching boot camp. We need just one...good...coach. The others can slither off into the night.

3. Rip the names off the jerseys and pray OU doesn't run up the score.

4. Let quarterback Stephen McGee suit up with the equipment manager.

5. Let sophomore QB Jerrod Johnson and RS freshman Ryan Tannehill rotate under center.

6. "Dollar" Bill will Tell the Aggie faithful that this is not real. He'll will say we've all been time-warped into a movie. Not to worry: It will have a "hollywood" ending.

This is partially tongue-in-cheek of course.

It will be a contest between A&M and Baylor to see who is in thecellar dweller in the Big 12 South. The InkDemon's money is on Baylor.

Arkansas State Spoils Sherman's debut

Aggies will need to acquire a sense of humor

Although there is nothing funny about what happened Saturday at Kyle Field.

Arkansas State defeated Texas A&M 18-14 and ruined Mike Sherman's debut as head coach. No analyst expected the Aggies to be awesome this year. No one expected the wheels to drop off of Sherman's West Coast offense so soon.

Sherman has no excuse for losing. He came to Aggieland after coaching at the Green Bay Packers and as an offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans. He fielded a team loaded with freshmen, but Arkansas State had just as many freshmen on their two-deep line up.

The difference was the intensity and the lack of mistakes on ASU's part. The Aggies turned the ball over four times, twice on fumbles and twice on interceptions.

Aggie quarterback Stephen McGee was sacked four times. He was sacked for a 17 yard loss to start off the third quarter. The offense never recovered from that sack. It went on to record only 109 yards in 29 plays.

Massive fullback Jorvorskie Lane was a non-factor. He entered the game twice to block. He was not available in the third quarter to punch it over when the Aggies were second down and goal on the two yard line.

Instead, Sherman went with Goodson who lost a yard. The next play McGee was sacked for a five-yard loss. Sherman settled for a field goal attempt by Richie Bean, who missed wide right.

It was a terrible debut for quarterback McGee as a drop back passer. He lost 29 yards on four sacks. He was intercepted two times. He passed for 170 on 19 completions on 27 passes.

All the Arkansas State points came off of Aggie mistakes. Wide receiver Howard Morrow fumbled on a third and six in the third at the Aggie 47. That led to an 27 yard ASU field goal by Josh Arauco.

The Aggies responded on the ensuing kickoff by going three and out.

The best drive of the night started at 12:17 in the fourth quarter. After a penalty that put the Aggies on the ASU 47, they managed to take it to the two yard line where Bean missed a 27-yard field goal.

What's left of Sherman's season?

He most certainly will absorb losses to Miami, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Colorado, and Kansas State. The real contest will be with Baylor over who will be in the cellar of the Big 12 South.

Sherman's main goal may be to keep these players' confidence up. A collapse in spirit may result in horrible blowouts every Aggie came to expect under failed coach Dennis Franchione.

Turgeon Gets Grade F

The Texas A&M basketball team finished the conference schedule Saturday March 8 with a 72-55 loss to Kansas.

Head coach Mark Turgeon took the Aggies from No. 10 to the second tier of the Big 12 Conference. Along the way, the Aggies dropped out of the rankings altogether.

He gets an F for the conference season. An 8-8 record is 50 percent and that is failing, even in some liberal arts colleges!

He gets an attaboy for his cushy non-conference record.

The Aggies are 1-11 in the Big 12 Conference tournament. He has a chance of improving on that record. Can he? Will he? I doubt it!

He gets an F for being unable to get into the heads of his players, who at times seemed to be unconcerned and incommunicative.

The season high had to be the 98-54 win over old arch-rival Texas Tech.

The season low was the 37-64 loss to Oklahoma. The Aggies only managed 10 points at the half. Those two games were only seven days apart!

He gets a loud OH NO! For that five Overtime loss to Baylor.

He gets an F for media relations. He called a Houston sports writer dumb for asking a question and then freeked-out in answering it.

The question: Could a three-game losing skid be coaching? He got universally bad reviews from Texas sports writers. (Lesson: Never tell a reporter his question was dumb!) The season has proved that it WAS coaching and that Turgeon simply lost his cool.

So now the Aggies must wait and hope. Wait for the NCAA selection committee and hope the NCAA will choose them for a slot. Otherwise, the Aggies can only hope for an National Invitational Tournament bid.

Enough is enough.

If the Aggies lose in the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament, they should call it a year.

Jekyll or Hyde? Who Will Show Up In Waco?

Who will show up for the Baylor game?

On Feb. 27, the Texas A&M Aggies beat old arch rival Texas Tech 98-54. The game was over at the half.

Then on March 1 the Aggies were hammered by Oklahoma 37-61. The Aggies only put up 10 by halftime.

Coach Mark Turgeon’s Aggies travel to Waco Wednesday, March 3, to play the Baylor Bears. The question that this Jekyll-and-Hyde team now must answer is: Who is going to show up for this game -- Jekyll or Hyde?

Something is wrong inside the locker room at the Aggie basketball camp. Some say it’s the problem is not having a true point guard. Others say something is inside the players’ or coach’s heads.

What ever the issues, it’s the coach’s problem.

In his first year, Turgeon is now 7-7 and facing a road game. They return home on March 8 to play Kansas. The chances for a repeat championship has faded. A return to the NCAA playoffs is fading fast. The Aggies have lost three of their last four games.

Few believe that a 20-win team that can’t pull a winning record in the Big 12 will qualify for the NCAA playoff which starts March 20.

The madness for the Aggies is to figure out who they are?

A Wimp's Tale: Aggies Hammered by Oklahoma

A Wimp’s Tale

“I’ve been a wimp,” Texas A&M basketball coach Mark Turgeon proclaimed on Wednesday after defeating Texas Tech, 98-54.

Everyone including the door knob in the men’s locker room knew it. It was just interesting to hear the coach admit it. All that presumably signaled a new attitude on the Aggie team and coach.

On Saturday, "that wimp" followed Turgeon and the Aggies to Norman where than a got an old-fashioned butt kicking at the feet of Oklahoma Sooners.

It was so ugly!

The Aggies could only manage 10 points at the half!

Turgeon’s hapless team went 17 minutes without a field goal or an free throw. It was a complete beat down, something Aggie fans are becoming accustomed to since the Turgeon era began.

How could anyone take a team that went to the Sweet 16 the year before to crash and burn this year? The Aggies’ Big 12 record is 7-7. They must finish the season against Baylor at Waco and Kansas at home.

It is not likely this team/coach combination can win out and preserve a legitimate chance to go to the NCAA playoffs.

Bye-Bye season.
